 About the Awards

Winners of 2023 Robert Merritt Awards

The Merritt Awards celebrate Nova Scotia’s outstanding talent in the theatre industry. Named for the late Dalhousie Theatre professor, Robert Merritt, the awards were established in 2002 and annually highlight the wealth and calibre of theatre creation and production in the province.

Professional productions are juried throughout the year, and exceptional performances, direction, design and more are honoured the following March.

The event also features special presentations: Theatre Nova Scotia Legacy Award, Volunteer Award, TNS Scholarship, Neptune's Wes Daniels Design Award and the Neptune Chrysalis Emerging Artist Award.

The Emerging Artist Showcase:
“Process” will be featuring the works of a variety of Nova Scotian Emerging Artists curated by the Associate Merritt Producer, Stevey Hunter. Before the ceremony, we’ll be inviting folks to check out the installation that will feature costumes, set designs, sound, digital performance, and more that highlight the emerging talent in our theatre community.

ROBERT MERRITT AWARDS

Celebrating Nova Scotia's theatre talent

TNS acknowledges that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. We recognize the heritage of this land and its people to express gratitude to those who reside here, and to honour the Indigenous people who have lived and worked on this land historically and presently.
